PHILLIPSBURG – Hoping to raise enough funds to provide housing for women who are homeless and pregnant or homeless with small children, Life Choices is hosting a dinner and auction on June 22. Life Choices is a non-profit women’s resource center that provides medical services that encourage good pre-natal care and material assistance for families in need. Currently, Life Choices operates a medical office, a center where families receive material assistance, and a mobile pregnancy clinic. The women’s center plans to expand its services to include housing for homeless women who are pregnant or have small children, including those who need to escape domestic violence or an abusive situation. The program aims to empower women to graduate the program ready for independent living and a healthy family life. “I have too often seen women in desperate need of safe housing,” said Director Joan Fasanello. “Sadly, the closest programs were 45 minutes to an hour away, all outside the county. Women in that situation are reluctant to uproot children and move, since to do so would require them to leave everything and everyone they know. Sadly, the fear of the unknown will sometimes leave them living in deplorable situations. We are committed to providing a safe alternative.” In order to raise the necessary funds to purchase a home and begin the program, Life Choices will host a charity auction on Friday, June 22 at 6 p.m. at Architects Golf Club. Dinner, a cash raffle, a silent auction and a live auction conducted by Brian Jaffe of Brian Jaffe Associates are planned. Tickets can be purchased at lifechoicesonline.org/news for a suggested donation of $75 per person.
