Traditional Latin Mass is Coming to St. Anthony Church!! As many of you know, our Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI, has allowed and encouraged the Extraordinary Form of Mass (also known as the Traditional Latin Mass) to be more widely used. According to him, the Ordinary Form of the Mass we see every Sunday and the Extraordinary Form are both expressions of the same Roman Rite. So, both should be available to the faithful, especially to those who desire it. The two are not in competition with each other. Instead, they each express true worship of God through Christ’s sacrifice. What the Church declares as good and venerable in one age is not done away with in the next and should be appreciated for the inestimable value it has. In answering his call, our bishop, David O’Connell, has designated that Fr. Brian Woodrow be given a special apostolate to introduce the Extraordinary Form to parts of the Diocese of Trenton that do not already have it available. Fr. Woodrow has requested that St. Anthony Church be used for this purpose. So, beginning on the 1st Sunday of Advent, November 27 at 12:15 p.m., there will be a weekly mass offered in the Extraordinary Form. Following the mass, there will be catechetical instruction on this form and any questions about this form will be answered by Fr. Woodrow. This mass will be open to all the Catholic faithful who wish to experience and learn about the Extraordinary Form and what role it will play in the future of the Church, as well as those who adhere with affection to the older liturgical forms. This additional mass will not affect how any of our other scheduled masses are celebrated and no masses have been canceled.
